Restaurant of the Week: Bodegón

Bodegón restaurant at the historic Hotel Madrid in downtown Milwaukee is a fine dining experience that focuses on the rustic cuisine of Spain.

Located in historic Walker’s Point, this over 100-year-old building has a rustic, inviting atmosphere. Bodegón combines home cooking with fine dining for a truly authentic Spanish dining experience.

The beverage program alone makes Bodegón worth a visit. They have one of the most select wine cellars in the city, a list of vermouths from around the world, craft beers and cocktails focused on what was found in the most prestigious hotels of Spain in the 1930’s. The cocktail menu is designed as an Index of cocktails with both descriptions and little sketches of the cocktail. The Cosmopolitan, which is blended like a smoothie, was one of our favorites.

For appetizers, we recommend the shishito peppers (which are noted as a staff favorite on the menu and the Cheese & Charcuterie, made with chef’s choice and seasonal accoutrements.

For entrees, choose from Tuna Tartare, Wagyu Burger, Scallops or Beef Ribs to name a few. If you’re feeling extra hungry, you can get the 24oz Ribeye for $72 or the 48oz Tomahawk for $108.

Dessert options include cake (prepared daily), key lime pie and house-made ice creams (also prepared daily).

Bodegón also serves brunch every Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 2pm. They are open for dinner six nights a week at 5pm, closed on Mondays. Reservations are recommended.
