Fall Travel: Aloft Minneapolis

Boutique hotel stays consistently equate to bliss at Aloft. And its Minneapolis hospitality hub is fully on brand in terms of sleek décor and amenities for guests. The property has 155 rooms in addition to a heated pool, fitness center, full-service bar, mini-market and three events spaces.

It is also hard to beat in terms of proximity to popular venues and attractions centrally located in the city. Aloft Minneapolis is walking distance from Guthrie Theater, U.S. Bank Stadium and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus—making sleeping in much easier knowing you can grab a Toasted Marshmallow or French Vanilla Cold Brew made to order at re:fuel on the ground level, along with a hot breakfast sandwich, before heading out to explore downtown.

Although there are a plethora of restaurants, breweries and cafes nearby, visitors will often opt to spend the evening lounging by the fire in the lobby, playing a game of pool (or giant Jenga) in the communal common area or trying masterfully concocted sips at W XYZ Bar. The cocktails are potent, yet also refreshingly “outside of the box”—revamped periodically so that repeat clientele always has a few new options to try between staff picks, a versatile wine list and rotating draft beer taps.

Meeting other travelers also happens on the regular at Aloft Minneapolis thanks to the social events the hotel frequently hosts in the open-air courtyard. For Minnesota Vikings home games with a noon kick-off, the W XYZ Bar serves up breakfast burritos, Bloody Marys and Screwdrivers. When game time falls in the mid-afternoon, guests are treated to a proper Midwest cook-out filled with burgers, brats, beer and Bloody Marys. And occasionally the party extends well into the evening on Saturday nights. There’s a DJ spinning tunes, giving W XYZ an after-hours vibe—likely to rival any dance club one might come across in the East Town borough.

Yes, you may be tempted to call in sick to work in order to delay the drive home to Wisconsin. But if you do, we promise not to tell you’re perfectly well—still living the high life at this Minneapolis hotel.
