Owl Ridge Cabin to Open in Wausau

Prepare to cozy up by the fireplace with hot chocolate and cabin views of twinkling snowflakes and evergreen trees. The uniquely luxurious Owl Ridge Cabin is scheduled to open its doors to guests on Dec. 15 in Wausau.

Not only is the Owl Ridge Cabin an architectural masterpiece inside and out, but the surrounding scenery will enchant guests with its Northwoods charm. Straight out of a postcard, this dreamy destination offers one-of-a-kind amenities, experiences and memories. This one-bedroom retreat boasts over 1,000 square feet of mid-century modern interior design and is quaintly nestled away on a pristine five-acre forested lot.

The most fabulous feature of the cabin may be the architecture itself, with sloped roof lines and panoramic windows that open onto a spacious patio. Other high-end amenities include in-floor radiant heat, a freestanding bath, a steam shower, a full kitchen and carefully curated decor, furniture and finishes.

But Owl Ridge isn’t your typical rustic cabin in the woods. Rather, with its open-concept layout and chic, contemporary style, it’s more like a luxury vacation house. Visitors will notice design cues that pay homage to the Wisconsin native and renowned architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. The owners and renovators, Randy and Sara Bangs, took inspiration from Wright’s seamless yet radical designs, where art deco marries naturalistic neutrality.

“We’ve long been enthusiasts of Wright designs, especially the iconic Seth Peterson Cottage in Wisconsin, so we took inspiration from that when it came to the design of Owl Ridge,” says Randy in a press release.

There will be no cabin fever here. This charming cottage fits in with its scenic surroundings thanks to purposeful color choices. In addition, local materials have been wisely used throughout the design of the cabin, from its cabinets to windows. Local artists’ creations will also be on display to bring even more life to the aesthetically pleasing ambience. Eco-friendly elements are also included, like an electric charging station and bamboo walls in the bathroom.

“This will be a getaway strictly for one to two people, no children, pets or other traveling companions, giving guests a chance to escape, exhale and embrace a style of travel that is both modern and timeless,” says Randy in a press release. “This is not a rustic cabin or a classic B&B, but a new way to overnight that we’ve been dreaming about for seven years and the timing is finally right.”

The property’s attraction is partly a result of its closeness to Wausau, which offers visitors easy access to the downtown district’s boutiques, museums and fine dining establishments. In addition, Nine Mile Forest Recreation Area, Rib Mountain State Park and Granite Peak ski area are all within easy driving distance for those who enjoy the great outdoors. There are also plenty of opportunities for road biking, mountain biking, hiking, and both downhill and cross-country skiing in the area.

Even though there are plenty of surroundings that offer exploration, the dense deciduous trees that cover the property give Owl Ridge Cabin’s guests the impression that they are far from civilization. Perfect for an anniversary, couples’ retreat or honeymoon, Owl Ridge Cabin is the epitome of the cozy Northwoods getaway you’ve been dreaming of.
