Restaurant of the Week: Story Hill BKC

Looking for a hopping brunch spot where farm-to-table flavors, cool cocktails and leisurely conversations flow? Story Hill BKC is your next Milwaukee hot spot for just that.

Located in the Story Hill neighborhood across from a beautiful park and just slightly northwest of American Family Field in Milwaukee, Story Hill BKC has been delighting guests since 2014. Story Hill BKC (which stands for Bottle, Kitchen and Cocktail) is located in an old storefront giving it chic farmhouse/general store vibes – evident also by the large chalkboard and checkered shirts of the uber-attentive staff.

Story Hill BKC has a delightful selection of cocktails on tap like a jalapeno Paloma, The Oldest Fashioned, or The Business made with gin, limoncello, lime and agave nectar. We love the sampler pick-three cocktail flight option. Guests can enjoy a nice selection of espresso, Mexican mocha, coffee, lattes and a variety of Rishi organic teas. No brunch would be complete without the Story Hill Bloody Mary. Choose from house-made veggie or bacon-infused vodka and chase it down with a shorty High Life bottle of beer.

Start brunch with a couple of a la carte items like the house-made sausage roll in a puff pastry and the savory and not overly sweet from-scratch cinnamon bun…or two.

While you are waiting for your main course, take some time to pursue the onsite award-winning wine, spirits and gift shop with a wonderful selection of take-home items. (They are also available for online curbside pickup.) Something new to check is the wine club, available in monthly and yearly subscriptions. Story Hill BKC will hand-select two exclusive bottles each month and provide tasting notes, chef recipes and pairing recommendations along with future discounts.

Now, back to the main course magic. The selection of entrees really turn the corner on brunch with unique dishes, worldly flavors, fresh local ingredients, hearty portions and a beautiful presentation. Story Hill BKC features three to four weekly brunch specials – anything from the colorful Crepe Fu Yung and The Count of Monte Pollo Benny to a Brunchy Bolognese with house gnocchi and poached eggs. Or brunch-goers can choose from a variety of crepe and frittatas, an egg bake, brunch burger, rustic toasts (baked tomato or avocado) or specials like a Greek yogurt panna cotta with fresh berries and local honey or the Shakshouka with local eggs in a cumin-spiced tomato sauce, smoked lentils, goat cheese, cilantro and warm naan bread.

Whether enjoying something from bottle, kitchen or cocktail, the cool and casual Story Hill BKC has you covered any time of day. Story Hill offers lunch service Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. We love the option of a mid-day menu Tuesday through Saturday from 3 to 4:45 p.m. with items to beat the late-afternoon slump such as confit garlic toast or a Wisconsin cheese platter. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fab pro tip: Stop in for brunch, grab a six-pack and some snacks and head over to American Family Field on foot. It is only a 15-minute walk or so to catch some tailgating and Milwaukee baseball action.
