The Fharmacy Public House

Nestled on the picturesque town square of Lake Mills, The Fharmacy Public House is Tyranena Brewing Company’s second and newest location that stands as a beacon of camaraderie and entertainment, offering patrons an experience that seamlessly blends history with modern charm.

Housed in a meticulously restored building dating back to the late 1800’s that once served as Lake Mills primary pharmacy, this quaint yet vibrant bar exudes a timeless allure. Upon entering, guests are greeted by the open-concept bar and restaurant, adorned with exposed brick, pulsating with contagious social energy. To the left is a stage to host live music on the weekends, the Tuesday trivia night emcee or more seating on the weekdays with a full window wall looking out to the town square. On the right, there is plenty of seating at tables, high tops and along the bar.

The centerpiece of this establishment is its impressive array of 24 taps. From crisp lagers to robust stouts, there’s something to satisfy every palate. You don’t drink beer? There’s also house-made hard seltzer cocktails along with non-alcoholic beer and its famous Tyranena root beer on tap. And what’s a Wisconsin bar without an Old Fashioned? You can try this version of the Wisconsin classic that uses an in-house seltzer and syrup mix. There is also a selection of canned wines to choose from.

Now, the food. The Fharmacy offers an elevated bar menu that features an eclectic variety of flavors. Whether you are flying solo or with a large party, the menu items are perfectly portioned to meet all your needs, like the Wagyu-stuffed corn fritters paired with a house-made mayo dip. That, along with the house-made boneless bite appetizers smothered in tangy BBQ sauce, seem like a tough act to follow. Then along come the sliders. Starting off sweet with the locally sourced pork belly slider, it is masterfully braised in Tryanena’s own root beer and delicately crowned with the vibrant Asian slaw, all nestled between a sweet Hawaiian bun. After cleansing the palate with Tyranena Three Beaches Honey Blonde beer, move onto the bison smashburger, crafted with locally sourced meat, topped with tantalizing beer-onion jam, sandwiched between a soft Hawaiian bun and drizzled with a decadent balsamic glaze.

The Esquites Dip is another favorite with corn, jalapenos, cilantro and cheese. This side dish gives a really nice smokey and lightly spicy flavor, so don’t let the jalapeno scare you. It is paired with a homemade chip that is perfectly thick so it doesn’t break during the dip, and you don’t need more than one chip at a time to taste a good bite. How good does that dip sound? Now imagine that same exact spread on a pizza. This place offers a wide variety of unique pizza options, such as the Aporkalypse and, of course, the Elote.

It’s not a full meal without dessert, right? The grilled cheese is sinfully good featuring chocolate mascarpone, Nutella and dulce de leche (oh my). One thing to also appreciate is that The Fharmacy doesn’t forget about the food-sensitive folks. There are gluten-free options on most of the menu, including the sliders, pizza and even a beer option. The restaurant also offers a great brunch menu; from the breakfast pizza and burritos to skillet options (which can be washed down with house-made mimosa or michelada), this is the perfect Sunday funday in Lake Mills.

While the uniquely crafted food and local refreshing beer are obviously a great draw to this establishment, it shouldn’t be underestimated just how much entertainment this place has to offer on a daily basis. During a weekly Tuesday night trivia session, it was sensibly crowded, energetic and welcoming. If you want a more centered moment, the restaurant also offers yoga and beer on Wednesdays (bring your own mat). Perhaps a tarot card reading? The Fharmacy has that on Thursdays. One of its biggest draws, though, is the live concerts hosted on Saturdays. It is an absolute scene and an unexpected surprise to have on a Saturday night on Lake Mills quaint town square. The beer is flowing, the music is vibing and people are dancing the whole night. Not only are the guitars electric, but so is the atmosphere.

Just as the entertainment will draw people in, so will the dog-friendly patio. This isn’t just a cute little patio. This patio competes with the size of the bar and offers even more space under the ambient string lights. Plus, there are stairs that lead to the faux-grass rooftop where guests can enjoy views of the city square and sunset.

One of the things Wisconsinites do best is create a welcoming, fun and social atmosphere–and The Fharmacy hosts just that, whether you’re looking for a date night, game night, dance night or just a refreshing drink after work.
