Harry’s Pizza e Vino Restaurant and Wine Bar gears up to open Aug. 22 in Elkhart Lake, marking the only certified Roman-style pizza restaurant in the state. Harry’s Restaurant Group heads up a popular lineup of family-owned restaurants in Sheboygan County.
Restaurateur Avni (Al) Latifi and his wife Laurie are behind the full-service restaurant with saloon-style bar. The new spot will join the Latifis’ other successful ventures: Harry’s Diner, Harry’s Prohibition Bistro and Harry’s Pizza Market. Harry’s Pizza e Vino Restaurant and Wine Bar’s specialty is certified Roman-style pizza, with a crunchy-yet-airy crust made with Roman dough that is high in hydration and fermented for up to 96 hours. The time-intensive process allows gluten and carbohydrates to be broken down; thus, the cooked pizza crust easier to digest. There are only around 50 Roman pizza restaurants in the United States.
“We are thrilled to bring Roman pizza back to Wisconsin and to Sheboygan County in a location with so much history and moreover that is hungry for pizza!” says Latifi, in a press release. “Excited to service the area with a unique locale for destination dining and sharing our pizza for carryout and delivery – from Downtown Elkhart Lake to Road America and all points around and in between!”
The introductory menu at Harry’s Pizza e Vino spotlights 12-in., personal-size pizzas with specialty toppings. Signature pizzas will include Walnut, with oven-roasted walnuts, walnut puree, mushrooms, fontina cheese and cream cheese, finished with an extra virgin olive oil drizzle; and the spicy Puttanesca, with San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, olives, soppressata, peppers, mozzarella, parmesan and fresh basil. The dinner menu also includes appetizers, salads and desserts (including a divine peanut butter panna cotta).
The bar program at Harry’s Pizza e Vino features specialty cocktails, beer and spirits along with an array of wines, highlighting vintages sourced from Macedonia to honor the Latifi family heritage.
