Hometown: Raised in Northfield, MN
First job: Waitress at the Ideal Cafe at age 15.
Favorite ways to spend your free time in WI: Hiking the Driftless Region, flower gardening and making flower bouquets.
Your biggest accomplishment and why: Raising children as a single mother while starting and growing a successful small business because it was incredibly challenging and the odds were against my success.
The biggest obstacle you overcame: The COVID shutdown of my business. It remains a challenge. In fact, four yoga studios in Madison permanently closed soon after the shutdown began.
Someone who inspires you and why: My mother because she started her PhD studies when I was in middle school in the early 70’s, is civic-minded, sings and plays the piano beautifully, is well traveled and has lived in several different countries, worked until her mid-80’s, reads voraciously and she was – and still is – beautiful.
Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Be resourceful, persistent, organized, willing to take risks and delegate responsibilities, and surround yourself with people who share your values.
Favorite quote: “Not fragile like a flower, fragile like a bomb.” –Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I drove a 32-ft. RV from Wisconsin to California in a span of six weeks visiting National Parks with my kids and dog for our summer vacation five years ago.
What makes someone fabulous: Confidence in combination with kindness.
