Photogenic destinations abound in Southern Wisconsin. And even more so during winter when an abundance of geometric domes pop up around the state providing gorgeous settings for large soirees or more intimate gatherings. No matter the size of the guest list, Lake Geneva is one locale that has as an igloo at the ready for any occasion.
Drinks…and Dinner: Pier 290
Ladies night. Live music. Free meals (on Sundays) for kids. Every day of the week, there’s a fab special going on at Pier 290! The daytime view is spectacular as well as the acoustics once the entertainment begins. And the kids menu features simple fare sure to get a thumbs up from picky eaters. Another major perk to booking an igloo at the lakeside restaurant is the full menu is available for order. Thus, no need to forego a favorite entrée—or bourbon tasting—when opting to dine outdoors. Happy Hour Revelry: Grand Geneva Resort and Spa
With roaring fires flickering nearby, the igloos at Grand Geneva are well suited for parties of four to six. The menu is comprised of sharable plates such as the jumbo M.P.C Bavarian pretzel, mini beef empanadas, cauliflower tempura and lemongrass and chicken potstickers that are large enough to be sampled by the whole group. Same goes for the Crowd Pleaser cocktail carafes, of which the pomegranate mojito and the screwdriver mule are particular favorites.
Family-Friendly Outing: Destination Geneva National
Destination Geneva National has an array of events at the property which families adore. Two of which happening in January and February are The Ice Castles and Ice Princess Brunch. So if looking to extend the experience with a family meal inside of an igloo, make a reservations prior to arrival. The 90-minute slots fill fast this time of year and are not available for walk-up service. The menu also accommodates a variety of dietary needs, plus features a large selection of Purple Door Ice Cream—a happy ending to a day of fun for children and adults.
Lakeside Lunch: Lake Lawn Resort
Enjoy lunch as a team away from the office in one of Lake Lawn’s 11 heated igloos. The food offerings are perfectly suited for a work meeting since the Hawaiian bun sliders and street-style tacos can all be ordered a la carte, in addition to the rental fees being discounted on weekdays. Plan to wrap up the planning session with The Chocolate Chunk Cookie S’more that will come with multiple spoons, ensuring no one will be headed back to their desks before the last marshmallow smothered in chocolate has been devoured.
Blow-Out Bash: Maxwell Mansion
Get ready to PARTY in a massive igloo on the front lawn of Maxwell Mansion. Filled with lawn chairs, comfy sofas and plush throws, it’s available to rent for private functions. The space is also accessible to the public for individual seating on a first-come basis when the onsite Apothecary Bar and Speakeasy are open. It’s hard to top a social gathering with stellar drinks close at hand, which is why this boutique hotel has additional smaller domes on the back patio. Both have room for 10 guests along with working fireplaces inside to keep the interiors warm well into the night, even if temps dip below freezing.
An Elegant Evening: The Ridge
Extend a memorable excursion into an overnight stay at The Ridge. Depending on the preferred ambiance, the hotel’s domes are styled for function. If an intimate dinner party is desired, expect a traditionally set table with crisp linens. If relaxing in oversized chairs with snuggly blankets sounds more appealing, reserve a lounge-style igloo for two or four. Both spaces come with Bluetooth speakers so visitors can customize the tunes they’re listening to while sipping on Spotted Cow, Caymus Cabernet or Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne. Being within walking distance of the night’s final destination is a big positive once the corks are popped. Simply kick back under the stars, then stroll back to your awaiting accommodations indoors.
