With humble beginnings dating back to 1943, The Del-Bar Supper Club is celebrating its 80th birthday this summer with the help of contests, specials, new menu items and more.
A local staple in Wisconsin Dells, The Del-Bar Supper Club is celebrating its 80th year on June 1. The family-owned and -operated restaurant has been passed down for generations and is currently in the hands of the third family line, by sisters Amy Wimmer and Anne Stoken. The duo took over the spot from their father, Jeff Wimmer and his wife, Jane, in 2018.
“Even with this beautiful building built in 1938, we have loyal diners who still fondly refer to it as Jimmie’s Del-Bar, and they drive distances to get here for the supper club experience they love,” says Stoken, in a press release.
Some staple menu items, including the schnitzel and walleye, have been on the menu since opening day, alongside other signature dishes, including oysters. During the anniversary week, the sisters marked down the seafood delicacy to just 80 cents per oyster. The owners work to evolve the menu while maintaining the classics locals have come to love.
“Lobster bisque has been one of the most highly requested menu additions we’ve received over the years,” says Wimmer, in a press release. “We just added it, with our version full of Maine lobster and topped with a homemade cheddar biscuit, and already it’s getting rave reviews.”
In addition to the new menu items and specials, the sisters decided to release one of the most beloved recipes at The Del-Bar Supper Club, the baked French onion soup. The full recipe can be found on Facebook on June 1, when the anniversary celebration begins.
A photo contest is also underway through the end of the year, where guests can submit a personal photo taken at the restaurant between 1943 and 2000 for a chance to win a gift card. Winners are announced monthly.
