Restaurant of the Week: Third Street Tavern

Food, fun and games galore are on tap at Third Street Tavern in the heart of the Old World Third Street and a stone’s throw from Fiserv Forum in Downtown Milwaukee.

Third Street Tavern is found within a corner space with an industrial feel and abundant light with floor-to-ceiling windows. It is a versatile space that offers up a different vibe depending on when guests visit.

The weekday lunch atmosphere at Third Street Tavern is a mix of families, co-workers, friend groups and day dates, providing a quieter dining experience. Weekends draw in a livelier college sports crowd looking to meet up and cheer on their favorite teams – especially the neighboring Marquette Eagles. It is also a great spot to pre-game before Milwaukee Bucks home games. More than 15 large-screen TV’s around the space make sure guests can catch the sports action from any seat. There is a second bar open on busy game days to keep thirsty fans quenched.

Legendary arcade games provide endless options for young and old at Third Street Tavern. Bring your quarter jars! Fifty cents a play brings back those vintage gaming memories of Donkey Kong, Centipede, Ms. Pac Man, Tekken and more. Low on change? No worries, Third Street Tavern has you covered with an old school coin machine. It’s fun to watch kids and parents bridge the generation cap with a common love of video games and cut loose together. Patrons can also enjoy bubble hockey, Golden Tee, NBA Hoops, Blackjack (21-plus) and much more. A giant claw crane machine filled with White Claws? Yes, you can claw for Claws!

A classic pub menu includes chicken wings, tenders, curds as well as Grandma’s Dip – a sour cream and cream cheese delight served with kettle chips. Enjoy the tasty Nashville hot chicken sandwich that hits with a bit of pepper heat and a sweet finish. The tangy pickle chips help cut the heat and add a nice crunchy texture. The classic Tavern Burger is a fresh double beef patty with cheese, pickle and onion on a buttery bun. Hungry fans can go big with the Big Cowboy burger, a triple patty topped with onion rings and coyote BBQ sauce. (Vegan sandwich options include a Beyond Burger patty.) The menu features some tasty options for salads, wraps, soup and chili. Make sure to get the extra sharable side of queso blanco with crunchy bacon bits, perfect for dipping tots and fries.

Fun libations include Purple Rain, a sweet Bacardi-based cocktail garnished with huckleberry licorice, or the Kiss from a Rose, a rose-flavored Gin & Tonic. Don’t miss the adult version of your favorite school lunch drink and try the Juice Box Hero, a Hi-C fruit punch box with an upside down shot of tropical Bacardi. There’s a great selection of Milwaukee and Midwest beers along with mixers and endless shots of Jamison.

Third Street Tavern is open for lunch, dinner, late-night drinks and weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring $6 Bloody Marys and mimosas. Milwaukee Bucks game specials include $3 Coors and Miller beer, $4 Jamo shots, $7 Captain Morgan and Smirnoff mixers and $8 Tito’s mixers.
