Restaurant of the Week: Schuby’s

Schuby’s Neighborhood Butcher is a new restaurant in downtown La Crosse that pays homage to their family and the generations of Schubert’s meat markets throughout La Crosse’s history.

Schuby’s focuses on sourcing quality regional meats and delivering great service. Adding artisanal sandwiches, charcuterie, dry-aged meats, bar services and other market staples, Schuby’s is a unique experience in La Crosse.

The restaurant and butcher shop is bright and airy with a beautiful floral mural on the concrete floor that was painted by a local artist from Viroqua, Natalie Hinahara. You can order meats and cheeses to take home as well as a selection of bottled beverages including beer and wine. Everything you would need to host a beautiful dinner at home can be found at Schuby’s.

They serve a small menu of deli items that you can eat there or take to go. The menu includes hot and cold sandwiches, soup and boards. Sandwich options include an Eggplant Burger with chili mayo, cucumber, shallot marmalade on a house milk bun; Chicken Salad with apple, hickory nut, celery, grape, watercress on a house milk bun; and Wagyu Pastrami with charred cabbage slaw on jewish rye – to name a few. The Boards are absolutely beautiful and made with the freshest meats and cheeses. There are a few seats inside and a patio if you choose to dine there.

They also have a whole menu of craft cocktails that look as good as they taste. One of our favorites was the Birds of Paradise, made with Fieldnotes gin or vodka, grapefruit liqueur, sparkling lemon, cherry bark vanilla bitters.
