Mangiare Italian Restaurant

Restaurant of the Week: Mangiare Italian Restaurant

Mangiare Italian Restaurant, tucked into an adorable Downtown Green Bay storefront just blocks from the Fox River, brings Tuscany-inspired cuisine to Wisconsin. Opened since Summer 2021, Mangiare is operated by the owners of sister restaurant, Republic Chophouse, just down the street and often shares their wonderfully attentive staff between the two locations.

Mangiare Italian Restaurant’s versatile seating options work for any guest or occasion. Enjoy a date night along the open-air street side windows; celebrate a special event with a larger group along the exposed brick walls in the back; or just pop in for a casual family dinner with the kids.

Start with a lovely selection of libations such as the Limoncello Cosmo or the twist on an Old Fashioned made with orange bitters and prosecco. Wine by the bottle or glass is available from the extensive list (and beautiful display of bottles behind the bar and around the restaurant). Then, it is time to dive into a memorable Northern Italy dining experience.

Mangiare’s menu offers delicious antipasti choices such as little neck clams, calamari, deep-fried risotto balls or a giant meatball infused with cheese and topped with more cheese and herbs. Guests can build their own charcuterie adventure and choose from a selection of locally sourced cheese and meats like salami, speck, prosciutto and bresaola.

Continue the Italian adventure with a variety of salads, offered in two sizes – we loved the fresh beet and creamy burrata. Then, move on to pick your pasta and sauce (pesto, Bolognese, Alfredo or marinara) and add-on options including shrimp, sausage, chicken or meatball. No matter what the appetite, we love the ability to choose from a large salad and side, including roasted cauliflower or perfectly toasted gnocchi or opt for a more sizable pasta-only portion.

The menu is rounded out with a delicious selection of entrees for every palate, including braised lamb, mussels, porchetta, duck ragout, tenderloin, veal Parmesan and rainbow trout stuffed with crab meat and prosciutto over a bed of parsnip mash. (Mangiare also offers a small, basic Italian-inspired kids menu.)

Save room for dessert, including in-house hand-crafted gelato, traditional tiramisu or the angel pie, a unique pecan meringue with four-berry medley.

Mangiare Italian Restaurant is open Monday to Saturday, 4 p.m. to close, and offers both dine-in and carry-out options.
