Restaurant of the Week: Hop Harvest & Vine

Hop Harvest & Vine, just off I-94 near the Waukesha Expo Center, is a delightful place for connecting with friends or meeting new ones while enjoy breakfast, brunch or dinner in Pewaukee. Tucked among several big-box stores, the restaurant sits on 17 acres of land conservation, making for a peaceful and relaxing dining experience.

No matter what time of day, Hop Harvest & Vine prides itself on welcoming everyone. The family-friendly patio with a kids’ play area is very popular as well as areas for pet parents to enjoy together. According to owner Joe Nolan, he considers this a “third space” outside of work and home for customers to enjoy great food, conversations and connecting with new faces and old friends. The restaurant offers a robust schedule of events including local music on Friday and Saturday, trivia on Wednesday and a unique Thursday speaker series during which anyone can host and discuss a topic of choice that might interest the community. Recent topics have included vegetarian eating and solar power in Wisconsin.

While the conversation, sense of community and events are all nourishing to the soul, so is the 100 percent certified organic produce, all-natural pasture-raised meats and sustainably sourced seafood on the menu. Hop Harvest & Vine has various options for meat eaters, vegans, vegetarians and those needing gluten-free meals. The eatery also offers nut-, dairy- and soy-free options in its counter-service
format.

In the a.m., enjoy various breakfast delights like the whole-oat griddlecakes topped with house-made local honey butter or the breakfast burrito with choice of chorizo or tempeh. We highly recommend the side dish of root hash – a delightful and healthy take on hash browns made with roasted root veggies. There is a lovely self-serve area of organic and local butters, maple syrup, stone-ground mustard and ketchup to utilize, as well. (Breakfast is served until 11 a.m. weekdays and available during the weekend brunch menu.)

Or try the harvest burger with 100 percent natural pasture-raised beef or balsamic-grilled Portobello. Chocolate and cheese lovers will delight in the unique chocolate grilled cheese sandwich. Organic cheddar and semi-sweet chocolate combine to create this melty sandwich.

Available during lunch and dinner hours, Hop Harvest & Vine features made-to-order from-scratch artisan pizzas available with its hop-infused crust or a gluten-free option. Italian dish options include pasta primavera or chicken and bacon-alfredo pasta. Stir fry, falafel bowls, beet salad, eggplant dishes, roasted salmon and quesadillas round out the hearty portioned pub menu. Check out the Friday night feature: a panko-crusted air-fried cod fish fry that’s gluten free.

Hop Harvest & Wine has a robust beverage selection including fresh-squeezed juices, coffee drinks and a separate organic smoothie area. The “Hops” comprise 24 local beers on tap – all brewed within about 100 miles of the restaurant. Selections change frequently and feature such breweries as Raised Grain, Third Space, Eagle Park, Brewfinity and Capital Brewing. The “Vine” features sustainable and organic red and white wines by the glass or enjoy a glass from the inventory. The restaurant also features locally brewed fermented hard seltzers, ciders and kombuchas. Thursdays and Sundays, from 4 to 6 p.m., is happy hour with $2 off wines by the glass and beer.
