5 Wisco Fall Foodie Finds

Autumn’s bounty can be savored in myriad forms. And these Wisco brands are serving up edible delights you’ll want to snag, snack and then brag about to all your foodie friends before year’s end.

Butcher Shop Bake Company

The term “monster cookie” takes on a whole new meaning when perusing Butcher Shop Bake Company’s website. “Every day you should eat at least one thing that excites you—and that should be my cookies. I don’t like flat crispy cookies, so I wanted to create a gourmet cookie that brought the WOW factor,” says founder Dustin Chronister in reference to his jumbo renditions. Keep an eye out for seasonal flavors such as pumpkin cheesecake, apple cranberry, caramel apple and carrot cake cafés in Rhinelander—or order online for delivery within the continental U.S. Photo credit: Frank Clary.

Lumpia City

Is it a dumpling? Is it an egg roll? You’ll have to sample these savory gems to find out! This biz has garnered quite a rep in Milwaukee’s culinary scene since its humble beginning as a food truck by cleverly fusing a classic concept with contemporary cuisine. “Given my Filipino heritage, I grew up with traditional lumpia as well as unique recipes my family would make! As soon as Sam [Klimaszewski] and I first started talking about creating something unique and inventive, lumpia was the first thing that came to my mind,” says co-owner Alexa Reyes. “Being a true Wisconsinite, her first idea was to put mac and cheese inside a lumpia—and thus our Five-Cheese Mac was born!” Nashville hot chicken, sriracha pork and other varieties can be purchased in retail location around Wisconsin or shipped nationwide.

Madison trEats Collaboration Kits

Cooking up a 100 percent locally sourced meal at home without having to step front into even one shop sounds too good to be true. Right? Well, now it isn’t thanks to this partnership coordinated by Madison Eats Food Tours and Christine’s Kitchens. “On average there are from seven to 10 businesses in each bag and at least two are owned by BIPOC and at least one of those two is a Black-owned business. To date, we have partnered directly with 16 different businesses owned by BIPOC and nine of those are Black-owned,” says co-creator Otehlia Cassidy. “We are featuring Latino-owned businesses through October with the Hispanic Heritage Month bag. And our forthcoming Trick or trEats bag we hope will be shippable. We’ll also reboot some of our most popular bags thus far (Let’s hear it for TACOS!), plus offer a special holiday trEat Yourself bag with items to pamper yourself.”

Nutkrack

Nutkrack

Candied nuts for connoisseurs is a perfect synopsis of what’s to be found popping open a can of Nutkrack. The addictive snack is equally delish in the Firekracker Chili-spiked version—and now proprietor Eric Rupert has made a new version for good cause. “This project grew from our company focus on being a productive and contributing member of our community, helped by customer feedback. Everything-flavored pecanshave been a common customer request, and as 2020unfolded, we have been looking for ways to help any way we can,” Rupert says. “The Goodman Center is in our neighborhood. And their work to provide food, education and services to the people who need it most is inspirational. Helping them do it while answering our customers’ requests was a natural fit!” Everything Seasoning Nutkrack will only be available for purchase for the limited time online and for curbside pickup orders from Nutkrack’s retail shop on Atwood Avenue on Madison’s near East Side.
