Hometown: Racine, WI

First job: I worked in the store at a pumpkin farm.

Favorite ways to spend your free time in WI: I love being outside. Yoga, swimming. Taking my daughter anywhere new to watch her excitement.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: NurturHer! I never saw myself not making it happen. There’s been a million reasons to quit, to not do this, to not build a home for someone like myself to grow and become the best version of myself. Once I started, I knew I had to keep going to show my daughter what girls can do. I love doing anesthesia, but being a healthcare provider comes at a price. I was missing out on life. I didn’t think I would ever be able to take my daughter to school or go on field trips. It’s not in the cards for CRNAs. And now that I have the freedom to be a mom, wife and the dreamer I have always been.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: My son passed away from meningitis eight years ago. Sadness could paralyze me. Being happy takes hard work each day to choose to find the good despite the pain. I used to think I needed to do something huge, start a foundation, host fundraisers, something in his name. But this life that I built in the “after” is his legacy. Talking about him in conversation with my clients as we share stories and get to know each other is his legacy. NurturHer is my platform to show someone else happiness is possible. It’s hard work. But possible.

Someone who inspires you and why: My mom. She taught me about perseverance and strength even though she doesn’t know it. NurturHer wouldn’t be what it is without Grams always coming to our rescue to help out.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Even if it’s not aesthetics, you have to do the thing that checks the boxes and makes you happy and fuels your passion. It’s one step at a time. The list grows exponentially for each item you cross off. But nothing life-changing and worthwhile is easy. Owning a business isn’t the easy way to have freedom to choose but it’s the most rewarding career I’ve had.

Favorite quote: “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I make one crazy three-tier fondant-decorated cake each year for my daughter’s birthday. This year, I added my nephew to the list for his first birthday. I hope my daughter will always remember the week-long cake creations I make her!

What makes someone fabulous: Confidence. And the ability to then help someone else see their strengths.
