Fabulous People: Christine Showalter

For the past 10 years, Christine Showalter has been the manager of Calladora Spa at Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan. The full-service salon and spa has been voted the best in Walworth County for five years straight. Learn about Christine Showalter…

Hometown: Walworth, Wisconsin – grew up on a dairy farm.

First job: Worked at Jerry’s Marine in Fontana, WI, renting jet skis and pontoon boats.

Favorite ways to spend your free time in WI: I greatly enjoy spending time at home with my husband and two dogs. We have two acres of land and can soak in all the seasons right in our own backyard. Taking adventures with my children and grandchildren brightens my days. We frequent Door County for family escapes and look for other new road trip possibilities. Wisconsin is a beautiful playground for all ages.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: I believe that the build design of Calladora Spa is by far my biggest professional accomplishment. From working in the spa industry as a manicurist, then group sales coordinator and assistant director, I was able to take the knowledge of what worked and what didn’t work and put into action a successful layout. Learning from the therapist perspective as to best practices and products for both tech and guest and learning from management perspective as to what the client desires made it come together seamlessly. Calladora Spa has been my dream turned to reality. Celebrating 10 years and looking forward to many more to come.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: Breast cancer survivor (three years and going strong).

Someone who inspires you and why: My mom. She raised me to believe in myself, to see the good in others, and to always lend a helping hand. She suffered a stroke five and half years ago, putting her into a wheelchair and an assisted living facility. She has never given up on herself or her care of others. She has fought to regain all her sewing, writing, painting, crafting skills and gives as she is able from her new “ride.”  She is amazing.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Never get comfortable in what you do, where you are. Embracing your passions and becoming creative to make them happen will take you far in the wellness world and in your personal life. Don’t be afraid to fail, to be questioned, to possibly be laughed at. Achieving goals means putting your ideas into motion, before they are

Favorite quote: Everything happens for a reason.

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I went to state competition for piano solo as a junior in high school.

What makes someone fabulous: Being fabulous comes from seeing the good in everyone, in situations, in what may seem impossible times. Lifting others up and working beside people, not being above them. Lending a hand, a smile, a hug.
