Restaurant of the Week: Blended

“Bowls that blow your mind” is a tagline Blended consistently delivers on. The micro-café located at Hilldale Madison is an herbivore’s dream by offering 13 different açaí bowls, an equal number of smoothies, 10 fresh-pressed juices and a small selection of pre-made snacks daily.

Proprietress Ashley Fuller is pleased to own one of the few fully allergen-friendly, food-based businesses in Dane County. “One of the things I’m most proud of about Blended is our menu being able to accommodate so many dietary preferences and restrictions,” she says. “I have had many customers tell me there aren’t a lot of restaurants [where] they can go and order absolutely anything. But with ours being completely vegan and gluten free, it’s easy for them to have a free rein of the menu.”

The bowls and smoothies are also full of taste yet low on caloric value. Guests can easily customize orders to suit their hunger level each visit by choosing to add in extra toppings and “boosts” like goji berries, paleo granola, plant-based protein powders, chia seeds and cocoa nibs.

Filling options to snag to stay fueled while running errands around town include the Buzz Smoothie and Inner Peace fresh juice. Plus two of the most popular items are the Red Zinger and Peanut Bowls—both bursting to the brim thanks to a bountiful, blended base of açaí infused with additional fruit like strawberries, banana, mango and pineapple.

Dark Belgian chocolate, nut butters and shredded coconut also add the final flourish to several of the other bowl options currently available, resulting in an appetizing edible creation that will also make a fantastic #FoodieFriday Insta pic.

Fuller ensures take-out will be available until the current pandemic-related restrictions are lifted. “This past summer we saw so many Blended customers come and enjoy an açaí bowl or smoothie in The Plaza at Hilldale,” she says. “I hope this continues post-COVID—especially since here in Wisconsin, we have to take advantage of a sunny day when it’s around.”

Blended is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more, visit www.blendedmadison.com.
