Lucille is a tri-level restaurant located in the heart of Downtown Madison, serving fresh cocktails, craft beer, wood-fired pizzas and sharable plates.
Built in the late 1920’s, Lucille was first home to the Capital City Bank and WIBA radio, Madison’s first commercial radio station. This makes Lucille a very unique restaurant with an open-air first-floor bar room, a wrap-around mezzanine built for group dining, and a warm, funky hidden basement lounge.
One of Lucille’s most popular menu items is its pizza. You can choose from wood-fired or steel-pan pizza, with a gluten-free crust option available for the wood-fired pizzas. Pick from several fan-favorite combinations or you can build your own. The Queen is a great classic wood-fired option with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil. For steel-pan pizzas, The Weekender is made with tomato sauce, sausage, pepperoni, mozzarella, cremini mushroom, red onion, banana peppers and Castelvetrano olives.
Another favorite dish from the Lucille dinner menu is the steel pan nachos with smoked mozzarella, queso, sour cream, pickled onion and jalapeno, pico de gallo and cilantro. Unlike your standard nachos, these have a delicious crunch and crisp from baking in the oven in the steel pan.
We also highly recommend the empanadas, stuffed with beef picadillo, black bean and plantain or chipotle chicken (our personal favorite). These are served with an aji verde, the perfect dipping sauce for these crispy delights.
Curated by bar leaders Carlos Espinosa and Caitlyn Nicholson, the cocktail menu at Lucille is impressive. There is a rotating list of cocktails as well as five staple drinks. On the “Always” list, we love the Pink Chimneys, made with Tito’s Vodka, blackberry, rosemary, lemon and lime juices and sparkling water.
Lucille serves brunch every Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; dinner seven days a week, 3 to 10 p.m.; and late-night food Fridays and Saturdays, 10 p.m. to midnight.
